Our Prediction:

Venus Williams will win

Saisai Zheng – Venus Williams Match Prediction | 26-08-2019 15:00

I still give the edge to Venus because of the home crowd and her rising to a new level at this tournament. Venus has never lost in the first round of the US Open, and shell have some extra motivation knowing she doesnt have many of these chances left. When Venus is playing clean tennis, shes still a respectable player out there, but shes also more than capable of hitting herself out of a match. Venus matches these days simply come down to her limiting her unforced errors and getting her first serve in play.

However, when Venus has her legs under her and is getting her first serve in play, shes a legit x-factor and capable of crashing a draw. Venus has had issues with her serve and unforced errors all tournament and it makes it tough to predict which player youre going to get from match to match. Venus has lost in the first round in four of her last seven grand slam appearances. Venus Williams is coming off a quarterfinal trip in Cincinnati, easily her best tournament since Miami, so she enters this week with some much needed confidence. Venus has split her last six matches on hard court. Venus has never lost in the first round of the US Open.

Consider that the counterbalance to her own unremarkable (and highly attackable) serve. Its that very skill which has allowed her 49 break points during her last three matches. Saisai Zheng built some confidence winning a Challenger title in China. Her biggest weapon comes in the return of serve. And, in Madrid, it took Sloane Stephens three sets to bounce the resilient Chinese.

WTA Italian Open Day 1 Predictions

Ashleigh Barty has been in outstanding touch in 2019 and enters this tournament as the top-ranked player in the world. Barty started her grass court season in a perfect manner as she won the Birmingham Classic a few weeks back. Barty had an enormously successful clay court season where she won the French Open.

But, undoubtedly this wont be much of a contest. It should be a straight sets win for the American teen against the Italian teen. No doubt, Cocciaretto will have the support of the vocal Italian crowd. Amanda Anisimova is lucky to be in the main draw after losing in qualifiers. Shell face 18-year-old wild card, Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto. You can be certain Anisimova will make the most of this opportunity. But, luck being what it is, the 17-year-old American claimed a spot as a Lucky Loser.

The San Jose draw is loaded with strong, talented players and opening against Zheng Saisai is perhaps the easiest match Britains #3 will see. Heather Watson has far more wins in 2019 than Zheng, though most of her success is derived at ITF level tournaments. The Watson serve is unremarkable, but theres little fear of Zheng attacking.

Grass is Zhengs weakest surface and she will find it hard to compete against the best player in the world. Barty has won her last 2 tournaments and the Australian looks confident. Zheng Saisai has not had a good season and she looked in poor touch in her previous few tournaments. Ashleigh Barty has been in supreme form and her record on grass is outstanding.

Yet the Croat seems to learn from each loss and continues to improve her form and strategy. And, more than 80 ranking spots separate these two. Some disappointing losses for sure losing the final in St. Its Vekic who has had a number of deep runs in 2019. While Vekic and Doi have split their previous two meetings, its Vekics dominating 6-0, 6-3 takedown of Doi thats worth noting. Petersburg to Kiki Bertens, and losing in the Brisbane semifinal to Karolina Pliskova.

Zheng has lost in the first round in seven of her last nine grand slam appearances. While the service can be shaky at times, Zheng has proven she can be a very tough out when shes getting her first serve in play. Zheng beat her fifth career top-10 player in that tournament and has won six of her last eight matches overall. Saisai Zheng is coming off a second match exit in Cincinnati, but shes in good spirits overall considering she just won her first career singles title in the Silicon Valley Classic. Zheng has won six of her last eight matches on hard court. When Zheng gets 65 percent or better of her first serves in play, Zheng has won four of her last five matches.

H2H Saisai Zheng vs. Heather Watson | San Jose preview, odds, prediction

She has never lost in R1 of US Open and think this stat will remain perfect for at least another year. Venus obviously is past her best and not coming back and I don't she will ever win another tournament because it would be a shame for her to be stuck at 49 career titles but it is what it is. Saisai is very tricky to play against with her moonballs and stuff but Zheng has kind of gone back to her previous level since winning maiden title in San Jose at the start of hard court summer. Venus will have tough moments but I like her chances to get a W here, probably in a hard fought 3-setter.

Unfortunately, its the Muruguza serve which will be one of the first things to go off the rails. Even if Muguruza is performing well, the 25-year-old Chinese will put pressure on the Muguruza serve. Zheng is capable of keeping pace with the WTAs best.

Zheng Saisai has had a very poor start to the grass court season as she currently has a record of 0-2. Zheng lost to Samantha Stosur in the opening round of the Mallorca Open and lost to Markta Vondrouov in the opening round of the Eastbourne International.
